Helen Pankhurst Visit
Fri 12 May 2023Our school had a visit from Helen Pankhurst (great granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst and granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst) yesterday (11th May) to do a Q&A with our Year 5 and 6 pupils who have been learning about the Suffragettes. Our children asked some amazing questions and Helen gave us such great insight into the well-known Pankhurst women, and discussed the work that still needs to be done to support equality for women and girls.

E-Safety Warning: Omegle
Tue 28 Feb 2023It has come to our attention that some pupils have been using the site 'Omegle'. National Online Safety say: 'Omegle is a website that pairs random strangers for live text or video chats. It first launched in 2009 and its slogan is “Talk to strangers!” There is an option for adult (18+) content and a section for people aged 13+ with parental permission. Anyone can use the site. Users simply go to Omegle.com and then choose ‘Text’ or ‘Video’ chat and the page states how many users are currently online. Depending on the time of day this can be hundreds of thousands. Omegle markets itself as a great way to meet new friends however has been known to feature pornography and inappropriate content within chats, so it’s important parents are aware of the risks associated with the site.
In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as pornographic content, cyberbullying and the chats being unmoderated.'

Fair Trade Community Competition
Tue 31 Jan 2023GLOSSOPDALE FAIRTRADE CAMPAIGN FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 27th FEBRUARY to 12th MARCH
To mark this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight, Glossopdale Fairtrade Group is holding a competition for children of Primary School age.
We would like the children to design a poster advertising just one Fairtrade product – you could choose from: tea, cocoa/chocolate, coffee, cotton, bananas, footballs, gold.
• You might like to illustrate your product growing or being made, or draw pictures of the farmers or producers.
• You can give any information about where your product is produced.
• You can illustrate your poster with the finished products we can buy in our shops.
• You could include information about how the Fairtrade Foundation is helping farmers deal with the effects of climate change.
• You can use computer images to illustrate your poster.
These are just some suggestions to get you thinking, but please include a slogan which encourages people to buy your Fairtrade product. Please also include the Fairtrade logo on your poster. Information about Fairtrade can be found at www.fairtrade.org.uk
Children should write their name, age, school or organisation they belong to in pencil on the back of their poster.
The closing date is Friday 10th March. Entries will be collected from schools and organisations after the closing date.
Winning entries will be displayed in Glossop Library from 18th March to 31st March. Prizes will be awarded at a short ceremony during our Fairtrade Coffee Morning at Central Methodist Church in Glossop on Saturday 1st April.
Prize winners will receive a personal invitation to the Prize-giving.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require further information. Chris Nudds Tel: 01457 856718 Email: christine.nudds1@mypostoffice.co.uk

Message from New Mills - Stranger Danger
Wed 25 Jan 2023Dear Parents/Carers,
New Mills School has shared the message below with their school community today. Whilst this happened in New Mills, we know it may be relevant to some of our families who have children there. It is also good to give children (especially those who walk home alone) regular reminders about stranger danger.
'We have been made aware that a member of our school community was followed home from school yesterday. This has been reported to the police who are investigating the matter. The description we have received is a male wearing dark clothing and sunglasses/public areas. If anyone has any worries/concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child's year manager.
Please discuss with your child the importance of walking to/from school and where possible with a friend, sticking to well-lit/public areas.'

Winter Weather Updates
Sat 10 Dec 2022As we are seeing some wintry weather this weekend, it is a good time to update you on our procedures for informing parents/carers about snow closures etc.
We will always aim to stay open, so long as we can do so safely (e.g. with enough staff). If we need to close the school due to bad weather, we will send a text out to parents as soon as the decision is made.
We will also update the 'Latest News' on the website, as well as the scrolling banner on the home page. We will make efforts to contact local radio and news, but text and the website will be our first line in communication.
If we have to close during the winter months, we will endeavour to provide work on Google Classrooms (or Seesaw for EYFS) as soon as we can.
Kind regards,
Senior Leadership Team

Safer parking on Royle Avenue
Tue 08 Nov 2022Great news! Work has commenced repainting the parking restriction lines near our school on Royle Avenue. Please be aware of the parking restrictions on ALL roads around our school and please respect our neighbours.
Mrs Bland will continue to monitor parking over the coming weeks due to the numerous complaints that have been received recently.
Many thanks to the parents and carers of our children who continue to park considerately.
