In EYFS during Autumn 2 children have been practicing holding the pencil correctly and writing their letters on the line. They have taken time to practice this skill daily and be able to write words correctly during their phonics lesson. Take a look at an example of one of our very clever Early years writers.

In Year 1 and 2 during Autumn 2 we have been ensuring that all children are forming their letters correctly, sitting on the line, and then all snuggled up together. Then our children went on to retell a story they had listened to during '10 Magical Minutes' we started with First, Next, Then and Finally. Now, they have a whole bank of time adverbials and openers to use to help them to write a retell. Children's confidence, ambition and stamina in writing has improved and they have been producing some incredible work. Take a look at one of this half terms 'Clever Writers.' 

In Year 3/4 during Autumn 2 children have been ensuring letters are of consistent size and formed correctly. Children have been practicing their joins in line with our handwriting policy. Our children then went on to consolidate skills from the previous year groups, identifying skills they should already know and include in their writing as 'Year 3/4 Clever Writers.' One of the new skills they have been learning to use and apply is 'adjective, adjective.' With this approach, children are now using this skill independently as it is added to our Clever Writer Checklist! Take a look at some of our Clever Writers!

In Year 5/6 during Autumn 2 children have been developing a range of new skills using 'high quality texts' as inspiration for their writing. One of the new skills they have been learning to use and apply is 'accurately punctuating direct speech'. With this approach, children are now using this skill independently as it is added to our Clever Writer Checklist! Children will learn a number of skills over the half term which will be referred back to when they cover that same genre again. Take a look at some of our Clever Writers!
