Our Curriculum Aims and Intent
Aims and Intent
The Duke of Norfolk CE Primary School's new (2022) curriculum is driven by the Attitude (our school values), Spirit and Knowledge (ASK). We promote the spiritual, social, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
We firmly believe that we have a responsibility not just to equip our children with knowledge and skills, but also to develop them as well-rounded, thriving adults who can contribute to the future success of our community, our country and the wider world.
Our curriculum is ambitious, sequential, and progressive. Our curriculum mapping focuses on knowledge and skills, and is supported by ladders of vocabulary. This allows us to match children's learning experiences to their cognitive level making sure essential steps in learning are not missed.
Attitude (School Values)
Our school strives to develop children personally and socially, and through our cohesive, whole school, progressive approach to PSHE/RSE. We are able to do this effectively, promoting our values of Respect, Resilience, Equity, Ambition, Compassion, and Honesty (RREACH).
Spirit
As well as 'Attitudes' and 'Knowledge', our curriculum is shaped by our drive to support children with their spiritual development, regardless of their systems of belief, or indeed no belief. We have a comprehensive approach to Collective Worship, and we focus in detail, as a whole school, on one aspect of spirituality each half term (see our Collective Worship page).
Knowledge
The curriculum provides pupils with a solid foundation of the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement. Although securing knowledge is just one element in the education of every child, we ensure there is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the national curriculum requirements.
Enrichment
The curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum. We endeavour to inspire and stimulate children’s love of learning and love of life through themes and enrichment activities which really bring our curriculum to life.
