Y1 Phonics Screening Check
Wed 05 Jun 2024Year 1 Phonics Screening Checks
Next week (w/b 10th June) Y1 children across the country will sit their Phonics Screening Check (PSC). Full details about this can be found by clicking on the following link.
These checks will be administered in a low-key way, and will be very similar to the phonics assessments we do every half term, so please do not be concerned - the children are very familiar and comfortable with the process.
Year 2 children, who either did not pass the check, or who were absent last year, will do a re-take check this year.
Results will be included in the end of the year school report.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Miss Wilson or the KS1 team.

Whooping cough information
Tue 04 Jun 2024Derbyshire County Council have advised that numbers of cases of whooping cough are on the increase nationally and have asked us to share the following information:
- We have seen increases in cases of Whooping Cough across the country, including 5 UK baby deaths. We have also seen positive laboratory confirmed cases in a small number of Derbyshire residents.
- We want to promote the vaccine message, especially to pregnant women. The vaccine is safe to be given in pregnancy. Whilst some women may feel that they would wish to wait until their baby is born, by having the vaccine in pregnancy (between 16 and 32 weeks), the baby will be born with protection against the disease.
- Vaccines for infants and children do include Whooping Cough, but cannot be given until a baby is 8 weeks old, leaving them vulnerable.

Reading Cafes
Wed 22 May 2024We are delighted to announce the release of some new dates for our very popular and in demand Reading Cafés which we have trialled so far with some of our youngest children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2! The dates are as follows
- 6th June- Year 3
- 20th June - Year 4
- 27th June- Year 5
- 4th July- Year 6
- 11th July - Nursery
The Reading Cafés provide a unique opportunity for parents and carers to enjoy a relaxed 30- minute reading session with their child, explore and share a range of fiction and non-fiction books, along with some fun reading activities with your child in the school hall. Refreshments will also be served. These sessions will take place in the morning, starting at 9:00am and will finish at 9:30am. Parents and carers should arrive and leave via the school hall at these times. Pupils must arrive at school at the normal time and place, where they will be registered in the classroom and will then meet their parents and carers in the hall with their class.

Staffing Changes - Apple and Fir Classes
Tue 30 Apr 2024Mrs Turner in Year 3/4 has taken some time off and will not be returning to school for this academic year. Miss Cousen, who is an excellent and experienced teacher, will take over in Year 3/4 Fir Class until the end of the school year. Covering Miss Cousen in Year 1/2 Apple Blossom Class will be our wonderful Miss Heppolette, who is a fully qualified Early Career Teacher, and has been working with the children in this class all year. She has slotted into this role extremely well. Miss White will continue to be the teaching assistant in Fir Class and Mrs Pickup will be the teaching assistant in Apple Blossom Class. Whilst we recognise that any disruption to learning is not ideal, we are more than confident that all of the children affected will continue to receive a high quality education.

World Book Day
Thu 07 Mar 2024World Book Day 2024 will be one for the memories!
Children had a whole week of activities and enjoying 'Reading for pleasure.'
The week started with local author Johanne Lee coming in to school to read some of her recent books and poems. Then off to the local bookshop (Dark Peak Books) where our children went to use their World Book Day Voucher. Then of course our big day came and children visited 5 or 6 classes around the school which were staged as countries. Children were able to find out more about the country that the book in that class was from or based on. Then top it off some of our children visited Glossop Library!
