Clarification of Teacher Assessments on Year 6 Reports
You may have noticed that your child was awarded ‘working at greater depth’ in their teacher comments section of the report, but was reported as ‘expected’ in the SATs/Teacher Assessment results sheet.
This is because the printout was taken from the official levels we had to upload to the local authority. The local authority would only allow us to report children’s assessments as ‘expected’ in reading, maths and science, with an assumption that ‘expected’ means ‘met the expected or above’. However, they did allow us to record ‘working at greater depth’ when reporting writing.
We still assessed children who are working at a greater depth in maths, reading and science, and we recorded that in the teacher comments section of the report. This is a more accurate assessment of children’s performance across a wider range of work. Therefore, we recommend that parents look to this section to find out where exactly their child is working. When passing on assessments to secondary schools, we included ‘greater depth’ assessments for all of the subjects.
We hope that this makes things clearer.
