On behalf of all of the governors, I would like to welcome you to the Duke of Norfolk CE Primary School or “Dukes” for short.
Our governors are volunteers drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds: parents, teachers, the Church and the local community. We are dedicated to ensuring the highest standard of safety, welfare and education for all of the children at Dukes. To achieve this, we draw on our collective experience and work closely with Mrs Barker and her senior leadership team. We aim to work in an open and collaborative way and to value the views of all stakeholders in our school.
We are responsible for ensuring that Dukes has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction. We determine the mission, values and long-term ambitious vision for Dukes and decide the principles that underpin the school’s policies. We then work with the school leaders to implement that vision.
We always place Dukes' children at the centre of what we do. We want them all to have the best possible education. We are responsible for making sure that they all have access to a broad and balanced curriculum and that the school’s resources are best deployed for that purpose. With this in mind, we oversee the school’s staffing structure and ensure suitable risk management procedures. We also hold the school leadership to account for the educational and financial performance of the school.
Duke’s long-term vision, ethos and strategy are at the heart of the School Development Plan. It details our aims and objectives for the ongoing development of the school. Our priorities focus on the following four areas:
• Quality of teaching – continuous development of teachers to deliver more outstanding lessons
• Pupil achievement and progress – enabling excellent progress for pupils by providing challenge at all levels
• Behaviour and safety of pupils – developing the role of the School Council and citizenship
• Leadership and management – developing our senior leadership team, subject leaders and the governing body.
We are very proud of the achievements of the school and its children. Dukes has made great progress in recent years, which has been recognised by Ofsted. We however remain committed to driving school improvement to ensure the best possible environment for the children at Dukes. More information about our school and the work of our governing body can be found on the school website.
We benefit from a committed and supportive school community. I would like to thank all parents, carers and staff for the support that they provide to the school and its children. The help that this provides to the children at Dukes is enormous. The achievements of our hard-working parent, teacher association are visible in the improved facilities and resources enjoyed by Dukes’ children.
All of our governors aim to be visible and approachable. Part of our role is to ensure that parents, pupils, staff and the wider community are involved, consulted and informed. I am always happy to speak with any parent, carer or visitor about any topic and welcome feedback. Feel free to email me, leave a message at reception or approach me on the playground before or after school.
Kind regards,
Brynmor Adams
