Outdoor learning

We are very lucky to have access to a wonderful outdoor learning space at The Dukes. The Reception children have free-flow access to the area, as part of the extended classroom, for large parts of the day. Our teaching assistants are very passionate about providing an outstanding outdoor experience, and set up endless creative combinations of activities each day for the children to enjoy. The environment is designed to encourage learning in all areas of the foundation stage curriculum, with physical development alongside creative play, and opportunities to extend and consolidate learning from inside the classroom. When outside, the staff interact with the children to further their learning, model 'quality' play and make subtle suggestions to develop skills and understanding.

We have recently been lucky enough to enhance our outdoor area with lots of new permanent equipment, and together with a lot of hard work we are thrilled with our 'new look.'  The children are showing respect and enjoyment, and their learning experience is massively enhanced.  They are able to access resource sheds safely and this allows increased independence in their learning and play, allowing their imaginations to soar!
